How much sick time do I get per year?

Every worker earns 1 hour of paid sick time for every 30 hours worked. Employers may provide you all your paid sick time at the start of the year if they wish, but are not required to.

How is sick time accrual calculated?

Your paid sick time accrues at a rate of 1 hour for every 30 hours you work. This includes regular hours, overtime hours, and all time that you are required to be on the employer’s premises.

For example:

• If you work 40 hours per week, you would earn approximately 1.33 hours of sick time each week
• This equals about 5.33 hours per month
• Over a year of full-time work, you would accrue around 69 hours (or 8.6 days) of sick time

When do I start accruing sick time?

You begin accruing paid sick time from your first day of employment. However, employers may require you to work for up to 90 days before you can start using your accrued sick time.
